Binghamton - Memorial Courtyard
Location: Binghamton, NY
Client: Binghamton University

Fifteen Binghamton University alumni died in the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. To celebrate their lives, the University has begun a campaign to construct a memorial garden on campus.

The garden is located in a courtyard originally built in the late 1960's. The 25,000 square foot courtyard will be completed rebuilt to accommodate the program. The design will consist of new planting areas which will replace concrete pavement, and will frame places for sculpture, a granite memorial monument, and a gathering space for University functions.

The landscape design theme will reflect the landscape of the southern tier of New York State, with its rolling hills, rivers, and native bluestone.

Michael Radner Design is providing full landscape architectural consulting services for the project. The first phase of the project was dedicated on October 12, 2002, and included installation of three granite stones with 15 plaques, one for each victim.
